It’s always a glorious day when we stumble across one of British supermodel David Gandy’s campaigns and his newest is one of his best yet. David’s teamed up with Aspinal of London for a retro men’s accessory collection, which takes its cues from the distinctive uniforms of Britain’s legendary fighter pilots. The line has just gone live and so have all its campaign images starring the supermodel; suffice to say, we’re feeling awfully patriotic all of a sudden.

David had a hand in designing the quintessentially British Aerodrome Collection and it’s a gorgeous throwback, full of hardy brown and tan calfskin leather and thoughtful historical details. It was a labour of love and he explained that he wanted to combine both his modern needs and style with an important moment in Britain’s history.

He said, ‘My inspiration for the design and details of the collection have been taken from the RAF Spitfire, arguably one of the greatest pieces of British design and engineering of all time. All of the individual items are an extension of my own personal aesthetic where the sophisticated, subtle feel of luxury and heritage meet with modern usability and technology.’

As David said, the collection features heavily around the Spitfire Mk1 with a little illustration of the jet in its logo. In fact, the actual locks used on a few of the pieces are exact replicas of the plane’s firing button – it’s the details that make all the difference.

David starred in the collection’s campaign, brooding beside a retro fighter jet and dressed every inch the part in crisp whites and the leather aviator jacket to end all aviator jackets below.

He said of the collection, ‘It feels masculine, yet functional and stylish. As a frequent flier and keen traveller, this collection is an extension of my travelling wardrobe and truly a representation of my own personal style blended with luxury heritage English design.’

The collection covers everything from briefcases to backpacks to aviator sunglasses (of course). While a number of pieces are currently available online, you’ll have to pre-order a few pieces like their briefcases and passport covers.
