I must admit I was a little bit dubious when the first murmurs about Gen-Z yellow being the new millenial pink started. Sure, it was all over the catwalk at fashion week, from Jil Sander and Versace to Tibi and Balenciaga, but I wasn’t sure the bright hue would translate well IRL.
Well, how wrong was I? You can blame the heatwave if you will, but buttercup and lemon yellow has cemented itself as the only way to do summer dressing, as proved by everyone from celebrities to my favourite influencers.
There was that incredible Stella McCartney dress Amal Clooney wore to the Royal wedding, earning herself the best dressed wedding guest title, which Meghan Markle no doubt took inspo from with this Brandon Maxwell yellow dress while on official duty recently.
It’s even made it into pop culture, with Katy Perry and Beyonce donning lemon dresses for their music videos (Gucci and Cavalli respectively).
The style set approve too, with the likes of Lucy Williams, Ropes of Holland, Pandora Sykes and Leandra Medine all adopting the bright hue.
Here are a few of my favourite yellow buys.

And before you start saying it’s just not for you, why not go small with a pair of statement slides or a bright thank top. you might just find you’ve got a new spring in your step.
Such is the power of optimistic yellow.
