Global Desi’s new collection is titled #GypsyHeart, and as the name suggests, channels a bohemian aesthetic. Designed for a free-thinking woman, this line features a unique take on basic ethnic wear, showcasing a mix of dresses, jumpsuits, skirts, tops and jackets in shades of blues and reds, with a touch of pastels. Also on offer are bags, footwear, sunglasses and jewellery that complement the garments. But that’s not the only news Global Desi has to share with us. Debuting this line is the new face of the brand, Kangana Ranaut. We chat with the actor to find out everything about her new association with Anita Dongre and Global Desi.
How does it feel to be the new face of Global Desi?
It feels amazing, as Global Desi has always been one of my favourite brands. Before becoming the muse of her brand, the first time I met Anita Dongre, I told her to keep certain pieces for me. I am delighted to be a part of this campaign as it is such a lively, young and vibrant brand. It is a privilege to be the face of their new campaign.
What do you think of Global Desi as a brand?
I think Anita Dongre’s philosophy and her interpretation of Indian wear is outstanding. She makes comfortable and elegant ethnic wear accessible for young and independent women like us, who find it difficult to wear Indian clothes in everyday life.
What do you think of the latest collection?
There are some versatile pieces in this collection. For example, I have never worn a dhoti sari or a sari-pants hybrid in my entire life. I wore it for the first time and I have to say it is super comfortable. I also love the way Anita gives a personal touch to all her pieces. It’s very youthful, independent and vibrant in nature. More than that, they’re pieces that you would want to wear every day. From going shopping to attending a meeting, it’s perfect for all occasions. You can even do yoga in some of the pieces from the new collection.
What are your favourite festive trends?
My favourite festive trend is a lehenga skirt. Usually you can’t move around while you are wearing a heavy lehenga, but the lehenga skirt that is a part of their new collection is so fuss-free that you can wear it for any festive occasion, and feel comfortable in it.
How do you describe your personal style?
My personal style is very bohemian in spirit, exactly what Global Desi stands for. It is the perfect representation of today’s generation and their wild thoughts. We don’t belong to any place but [to] the globe, the entire world. So you can wear this dress and land anywhere in the world and you will be the centre of attraction because of your individuality, [and] at the same time your openness to what the world is today.
