Rachel Lindsay Calls Out Hannah Brown for Deleting Southern Belle Photo

Speaking her mind. Former Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay and her “Higher Learning” podcast cohost Van Lathan hosted an Ask Me Anything on Reddit on Monday, February 15, to answer fan’s questions — and she did not hold back.

Lindsay, 35, answered numerous questions about different Bachelor Nation topics, many about race following the latest controversy regarding Rachael Kirkconnell. The current Bachelor contestant, 24, came under fire when past racially charged Instagram photos that she “liked” resurfaced, as well as photos of her in 2018 at an Old South party on a plantation.

On February 9, Lindsay asked host Chris Harrison for his thoughts on the posts and he seemingly defended Kirkconnellwho has since apologized — and asked the Texas native if her social media actions are only a bad thing because it’s 2021.

“These girls got dressed up and went to a party and had a great time, they were 18 years old. Now, does that make it OK? I don’t know Rachel, you tell me,” the producer, 49, said during an Extra interview. “Were we all looking through [that lens] in 2018?”

After backlash, Harrison later apologized and has temporarily stepped away from the show, announcing he will not host the upcoming After the Final Rose special.

“I took a stance on topics about which I should have been better informed,” his February 10 statement read. “While I do not speak for Rachael Kirkconnell, my intentions were simply to ask for grace in offering her an opportunity to speak on her own behalf. What I now realize I have done is cause harm by wrongly speaking in a manner that perpetuates racism, and for that I am so deeply sorry.”

However, that conversation and Kirkconnell’s social media past are only the latest issues with the franchise, which up until January 2021, never had a Black Bachelor.

During the AMA, Lindsay revealed what changes the show needs to endure and also spoke out about Hannah Brown, who came under fire in May after saying the N-word during an Instagram Live and vowed to do better.

What She’d Do If She Were a Producer

“I would basically consult with the Bachelor Diversity Campaign creators,” the Bachelor alum wrote, referring to the organization that demands the franchise increase the representation of BIPOC personalities. “They seem to really get it and be on top of the change the fans want to see in the franchise.”

Remember Lee?

“There was a time where I truly wanted to believe that Lee [Garrett] slipped through the cracks but I now know better. I really think Lee was casted [SIC] to add controversy and they also knew I would not pick him,” she wrote regarding the former contestant who was accused of being racist. “I do think Rachael slipped through the cracks. I do not think they were aware of all the things that she is connected to or that she did.”

On Hannah Brown’s Controversy and Her Deleting Her ‘Southern Belle’ Pic

First, Lindsay commented on the 2013 photo resurfacing of Brown resurfacing. “I think there is a reason that her comments on the situation lacked substance,” she wrote before answering a question about her thoughts on the photo now being deleted from Brown’s Instagram.

“Wait seriously? This is why actions speak louder than words,” the former attorney wrote. “This is why we have uncomfortable conversations and this could have really been a big teaching moment. We can’t continue on a path of pretending things did not happen or running away from them. We do not ‘learn and grow’ from that.”

Brown’s photo was from the presentation of the Tuscaloosa Belles, a charity organization that encourages women to learn and become involved in the community.

On Whether She’ll Renew Her Contract

“My contract with BHH. I was already was considering leaving but I love Becca,” she wrote, referring to ABC’s “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast she hosts with Becca Kufrin. “Now I am just exhausted and really need to separate myself from direct affiliation with the franchise. I don’t want to be a part of something that is representative of the franchise at the moment.”

That Colton Underwood Shade

When a fan asked, “Who is the weeniest weenie you’ve ever roasted?” she responded, “In Bachelor Nation?…. Colton.” (Lindsay and Lathan often use the term “weenie” on their podcast.)
