Chanel's New Loafers Have Become an Obsession of Mine

Loafers haven't been around for a while. Sure, they kind of bubble up as one of those wardrobe basics we will always feel passionate about, but they haven't really been in the fashion spotlight for a while. Back in 2015, it was Gucci's Horsebit backless loafers that became the ubiquitous shoes of the season thanks to Alessandro Michele's new reign at the fashion house. Then after that initial buzz, which did admittedly last a couple of years (and the style still stands up today as a modern classic), everything went a little quiet on the loafer front. Now, in 2021, they're everywhere again, and this time nearly every designer you can think of is taking part. Well, dear readers, I think I've found the ultimate designer loafers to beat all others: the Chanel loafers. A model wearing loafer...

The story behind Chanel's most iconic (and valuable) bag

Chanel may be serving up some covetable designer handbags this season, but if you want a solid investment, then the Chanel 2.55 bag is for you. In fact, it not only holds its value, but it increases significantly the longer you have it. Money aside, it’s a true classic in its own right, thanks to its signature quilted texture and ‘mademoiselle’ hardware turn lock. So how did this iconic bag come to be? Given its timeless style, you might be surprised to hear that it’s much older than you’d think, though granted, it has received a few updates in the past. What is a Chanel 2.55 bag? It was created by Gabrielle Chanel herself, back in 1955 (Karl Lagerfeld late re-imagined the style by launching the 11.12 when he joined the house in the 1980s). The name itself ...

Chanel's Spring Couture Show Was a Glamorous Folklore Wedding For the Whole Family

Chanel designer Virginie Viard set the tone for the spring/summer 2021 Haute Couture show at the traditional Grand Palais in Paris, where the French fashion house is known to present its collections. Viard channeled all of our energy and desires to celebrate right now among close family, throwing a glamorous folklore wedding where her models debuted movable party wear underneath arches of flowers. "I love big family reunions, when the generations all come together. It's so warm. There's this spirit at Chanel today. Because Chanel is also like a family," Viard said. Sure enough, many of the well-known ambassadors were on the guest list: Marion Cotillard, Penélope Cruz, Vanessa Paradis, and her daughter, Lily-Rose Depp. They all posed for photographer Anton Corbijn in black-and-white "ba...

These Photos of Kristen Stewart as the Only Guest at Chanel's Runway Show Have BDE

Oh, to be Kristen Stewart, swathed in Chanel and seated in the alcove as the sole guest of the storied fashion house's runway show in a 16th century French chateau in the Loire Valley. The actress and internet girlfriend was the only person in attendance when Chanel presented its newest Métiers d'art collection on Dec. 3, and though we certainly miss the excitement of bustling fashion presentations, we'd honestly be fine if shows were exclusively attended by Kristen going forward. Think about it: no networking or small talk, no fashionably late guests holding up the models, no squeezing into a seat next to someone you don't know. Just Kristen. How freeing! In a video of the complete show shared by the brand, viewers will be able to catch glimpses of Kristen watching as models walk by,...

Chanel's autumn/winter collection is an ode to warrior women

The venue The Chanel show has always been a massive production. In the past, Karl Lagerfeld has transformed the Grand Palais into a supermarket, a beach complete with sand and waterfalls, and even erected an Eiffel Tower and a rocket ship. But this season, a year on from the late designer’s death, Virginie Viard paired things right back. Guests were seated on abstract white benches surrounding the mirrored catwalk, with the designer explaining, ‘there is no frame for the show. I don’t like that which is framed.’ It’s worth noting Virginie broke the rules even further with her line up. Models walked down the runway in groups, with their arms interlinked and smiling like the best of friends, shunning the usual single file format. The collection The Chanel au...

Chanel's Fall 2020 Collection Resurrected Karl Lagerfeld's Iconic Designs From 1994

Chanel's creative director, Virginie Viard, continues to bring the famed fashion house into a youthful and experimental new era. While always paying homage to the brand's signature boxy bouclé skirt suits, the Fall/Winter 2020 collection seemed to reference Anna Wintour's first ever cover for American Vogue - the 1988 November issue, featuring model Michaela Bercu and photographed by Peter Lindbergh. That iconic '88 Vogue cover had Bercu styled in a black Christian Lacroix Couture Fall 1988 jacket with a large, multicolor beaded cross on the center of the bust. A very similar beaded cross design is referenced heavily throughout Viard's collection for Chanel Fall 2020. Many of the new season bouclé co-ordinating sets featured small beaded crosses on the center of the bust, as well as m...
