Kamala Harris Explains Why You Always See Her Wearing Converse Sneakers: "My Casual Go-To"

When Kamala Harris becomes Vice President on Inauguration Day, she's going to accomplish a lot of firsts - including being the first office-holder to wear Converse sneakers while accomplishing her VP duties. During an interview on CBS Sunday Morning, Kamala talked about her lifelong love for "Chucks" which her husband, Doug Emhoff, happily backed-up. "[Converse are] just my casual go-to," Kamala explained. "You know, I grew up with Chucks. I just love them. They're comfortable." Doug joked she had "several closets full of them" ("He's exaggerating," Kamala responded) and she didn't start wearing the shoes on the campaign trail. "When I met her, it was Chucks and jeans. When she met the kids," he said. Indeed, Kamala's Converse connection has followed her all the way to the White Hous...

We're 100% Wearing These Sparkly-Soled Converse Sneakers on New Year's

Converse's newest collaboration with Joe FreshGoods will take you back to the '70s. The disco-themed collection is a major throwback to a time when roller rinks reigned supreme, and it's inspired by Chicago in 1976. Joe Robinson, founder and designer of the streetwear brand Joe FreshGoods, actually grew up on Chicago's West Side and wanted to incorporate the atmosphere's essence into the collection. "I wanted to approach the collection like a reader scrolling through a book about love, Black culture, soul and art. Each piece is a history lesson," Robinson said in a press release. The $120 Converse x Joe FreshGoods Chuck 70s feature a multicolored mixed-graphic-print upper with a tie-dye print tongue. They even have a T-shirt inspired hang tag! As for the Pro Leather sneakers, which co...

Kamala Harris Explained Why She Loves Converse, and the Political Connection Just Makes Sense

She is the queen of Converse, rocks Timberland boots like a boss, and truly understands that every good outfit can be tied together with a fresh pair of white sneakers. Yep, we're talking about Sen. Kamala Harris and her excellent choices in footwear. The vice presidential nominee was the latest guest on Complex's Sneaker Shopping, and if you thought sneaker culture and politics have no place in the same sentence, prepare to stand corrected. When it comes to her adoration for the classic Converse kicks, Kamala said they "are a statement about who we really are. I think it just has to do with the fact that we all want to go back to some basic stuff about who we are as a country." Despite not being allowed to wear sneakers on the Senate floor, Kamala has taken more than a few opport...

Kamala Harris Dances in a Rainstorm – Of Course, Converse Are the Best Shoes For That

Kamala Harris spent critical time campaigning in Florida on Oct. 19, where she spoke to supporters in both Orlando and Jacksonville. Even though Kamala urged the crowd to get back into their cars when the rain poured, they were too excited by her enthusiasm as she laughed and danced through the downpour. Seriously, who wouldn't want to get up and groove with Harris, who even had a teal umbrella to perfectly coordinate with her Mountain Blue Lafayette 148 blazer? Let's not forget that Kamala was wearing her Converse, too, which have become her signature throughout the 2020 campaign. (Those, alongside her pearls.) Kamala was dressed comfortably and appropriately - exactly as we would for putting on a show in the rain with every bit of sophistication in tact. She wore a simple white t-shi...

Maya Rudolph Nails Her Return to SNL as Kamala Harris – Down to the Converse Sneakers

Maya Rudolph is stepping into Sen. Kamala Harris's shoes once again for Saturday Night Live. Maya, a former SNL cast member, made her return to 30 Rockefeller Plaza on Oct. 3 to reprise her role as the Democratic vice presidential nominee. Naturally, she dressed the part. In real life, Kamala has quite the sneaker collection going on and she frequently slips into some Converse for campaign events. Maya channeled that casual and practical energy into her cold-open cameo with Jim Carrey and Alec Baldwin, proving she's laced up and ready to win while delivering iconic lines like, "America needs a WAP - woman as president. But for now I'll settle for HVPIC - hot vice president in charge." You tell 'em Kamala, er, we mean, Maya! Check out the skit, and the low-top sneaker moment, ahead. ...

And Now Presenting: Kamala Harris Wearing Converse on the Campaign Trail Like a Damn Boss

Kitten heels and muted pumps? Psh, Kamala Harris is rocking Converse on the campaign trail, and we absolutely love her for it. During a trip to Milwaukee on Monday, the Democratic vice presidential nominee kept things cool, casual, and comfy by sporting black low-top Chuck Taylor All Stars with a navy blazer, dark-wash skinny jeans, and a black top. The unisex kicks are an approachable choice, ringing up at just 50 bucks per pair, but they also show she's not afraid to roll up her sleeves and get sh*t done. Quite the apt pick for a day of meeting with business owners and union leaders, if we do say so ourselves. The pick didn't go unnoticed, either. Kamala offered a peek at her campaigning 'fit on social media, captioning a video of her disembarking a plane with: "All laced up and ready...
