Kamala Harris Wears Asian Designer Prabal Gurung's Pantsuit, Makes Him Feel "Re-Energised" in His Mission

Kamala Harris continued to break barriers in her career. On April 28, she stood behind Joe Biden as he addressed a joint session of Congress at the United States Capitol in Washington DC. Biden acknowledged the vice president and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi: "Madam Speaker, Madam Vice President, no president has ever said those words from this podium," he said. "No president has ever said those words and it's about time." If that is not enough to make women and young girls all over the world feel confident, Harris's bold stature and elegance in a cream Prabal Gurung pantsuit should help. He is one of the influencers, editors, and designers using his platform to address the anti-Asian hate crimes in America, among others such as Phillip Lim, Public School's Dao-Yi Chow, and Allure Editor in Chief Michelle Lee. "I was advised to limit the diversity of my runways because clients wouldn't be as receptive to non White models." Prabal Gurung's Post About Hate Crimes Proves Fashion Will Always Play a Role in the Conversation

Prabal Gurung took us back to his spring 2020 show, where models from all backgrounds took the runway during the finale wearing sashes that read, "Who gets to be American?" Prabal, who is an immigrant, born in Singapore, has always taken heed of his platform as a fashion designer, weaving political narratives into his collections rather than shying away from the issues he and other minorities in our country face every day. When CNN used the above image from his 2019 NYFW show to bring attention to those in the fashion industry speaking up about the recent spike in hate crimes against Asian Americans during the COVID-19 pandemic, Prabal reacted by writing a long caption on his feed. "After all aren't the perpetrators inflicting those pain either through their physical or verbal attacks ...
